The BeachTek DXA-5D comporte deux entrées XLR, permettant de brancher des micros externes sur votre caméra et/ou sur votre appareil photo de type the Canon 5D Mark II. Il peut aussi être utiliser avec tous types d'enregistreurs audio comportant une prise Line In mini-jack.   The DXA-5D est très facile à programmer et à utiliser. Il vous permet de connecter une large variété de dispositifs audio incluant les microphones à condensateur professionnels qui exigent de pouvoir disposer d'une alimentation fantôme de 48 volts pour fonctionner. Le contrôle du niveau d'entrée grâce aux vues mètres permet un contrôle précis du niveau sonore. Une prise casque vous permet d'éffectuer le monitoring, écoute en direct de tous ce qui sort du DXA-5D. Ce dernier utilise des composants sans bruit ou nuisances sonores lors de son fonctionnement ce qui permet d'obtenir un son clair à rpoximité du dispositif.  L'adaptateur peut être fixer sur n'importe quel type de pieds caméras.
